I took these snaps of cherry blossoms with my phone while out and about doing my regular thing. Somehow they didn’t come out as beautiful as cherry blossoms always look in glossy calendars. While the forced jollity of hanami — the drunken parties held all over Japan on green plastic mats beneath the trees when weather and work permit — can get tiresome, you’d have to be pretty jaded not to find at least a little beauty in the two weeks of the year when the sakura blossoms cover the ground like pink snowflakes. But I think beauty is always more about what you are looking for than what you are looking at. Something like that anyway.
